Getting The Right Fit For Your Young Child's Shoes

Getting The Right Fit For Your Young Child’s Shoes

That exciting day has come at last when your baby is taking their first steps! A whole new world of exploration lies ahead of them, and they will no longer have to view what’s coming from down on their hands and knees!

Now that your baby is enjoying their first walkabout around the house, the outside world awaits! While touring the grassy backyard is no problem in little bare feet, the world beyond is a different story! Now it’s time to shop baby first shoes in Australia so your new pedestrian can walk in style while keeping their feet nice and safe from the sharp rocks and thorns they are bound to encounter along the way.

Baby’s first shoes will be the first of many shoes, children grow incredibly fast and your little traveller might need new shoes every three to four months! How often you have to replace their shoes depends on how active your child is, and how fast their feet are growing. Children’s feet tend to grow in spurts. Early toddlers under 16 months of age typically grow more than one-half a foot size in only 2 months. Toddlers from ages 16-24 months will likely grow one-half a foot size every 3 months. Children who are 2-3 years old generally grow around one-half a foot size every 4 months, and children over 3 years will increase one-half a foot size every 4-6 months. When you add it all up, that’s a lot of shoes!

Here are some basic guidelines to help you when shopping for your children’s shoes

It’s important to pay careful attention to the shoe’s width, length, and depth when your child is trying on new shoes. Children’s shoes that fit poorly are liable to cause blisters, calluses, ingrown toenails, bunions, and hammertoes. Closely examine the shoe’s depth to make sure the top doesn’t press down on the toes or the toenails. Shoes with rounded toe boxes are a good choice because they give the toes more room to move about.

Take note that shoes should be comfortable from the very start! If new shoes must be “broken in” it’s because they were not properly designed or correctly fitted for your child’s feet! You should check frequently to see if your child’s feet are suffering from redness or blisters, they indicate that it’s time for larger or wider shoes!

As a loving parent, you want your baby’s first steps through life to be as comfortable as possible! Happy trails!
